Reformated hard drive (NFTS)and installed XP Pro but will
not recognize Quantuam hard drive (used to). Thought I had
problem with IDE ribbon cable so replaced with new - no
help. Bios sees both drives ob boot up and device mgr sees
both drives and reports no errors but "My Computer" does
not show extra hard drive. How Come? Is there a right and
wrong way to install the ribbon cable? Polarization
notches mated properly in all three connectors of ribbon
cable. Thanks

First, make sure the drives are setup as Master and Slave with the
proper jumpers.

I'm assuming the drive you formatted to NTFS is the slave drive and
not the primary boot drive. Have you gone into Disk Administrator
and assigned a drive letter(s) to the drive you formatted to NTFS?

If no drive letter, My Computer and Explorer will not report the drive
as "seen" within XP although Device Manager and BIOS will "see" the
drive.....
