I bought a Maxtor DamondMax +10 NCQ 7200RPM IDE/133 250GB 16MB Cache from
tekheads.co.uk. Seen as I live near their warehouse I went to pick it up
myself to save on postage. The website is:
http://www.tekheads.co.uk/s/product?product=603694 . hen I got home i pluged
it in to my motherboard. First the power cables then the other cabley thing
that was hanging spare off from the original 15Gb Maxtor hard drive. When I
turned on the PC I saw for about a second that the bios hads accepted it.
When I got to the desktop, Windows XP said it had found new hardware-the hard
drive. I thought it had all worked fine. When I went to the My Computer
folder, it only said 1 C drive no extra drive had appeared. Whe I right
clicked on the c drive icon and went to properties it still said it was 15GB.
When you went to hardware it had accepted it there. If you went on properties
here everything seems to be OK.

Why isn't the My Computer folder accepting it? I tried to update the driver
but it said it already had the latest software. Also on the same shopping
trip we bought a digital camera. When I installed this and I chose the
directory where all the info has to be installed there wasn't the hard drive
there either.

Please Help
Thanks

P.S.I have got a number of screenshots aswell from right-clicking on the C
drive and then into properties and then clicking hardware then on the new
hard drive the properties. Just email me back and I will send you these and
anything else you require

You need to partition and format your new drive.
Rightclick "My Computer", select Manage.
Click on "Disk Management"
All the tools you need are here. 250GB is a pretty big drive. You may want
to consider creating more than one partition/logical drive.

How do you create more than one partition/logical drive?

I've never done that before.

Please Help
Thanks

Just make the first one smaller than the maximum size, then there will be
additional space to create another. But you need not have additional
partions unless you are going to install another operating system with a
separate boot loader.

How do you create a single partition. I've got to the folder with the two
drives. How do you create one from here.

Please can you tell me step by step

Thanks
