My set up was as follows; Cdrive - system, e drive - boot and a usb large
(120g) drive as d. This morning the large disk was renamed h and a cd-rom
drive was designated d. All the programs etc. are setup to use d. How cad I
change things back to the way they were? and how and why did winxp do this?
Thanks

Hi

You can try renaming the drive(s) via Disk Management. Type the following
from Start>Run

diskmgmt.msc

Going into Disk Management lets me use a letter further in the alphabet but
not on in use already. There is no equivalent place where I could rename the
cd drive and free up the letter d. Does the "Assign" that I remember from the
DOS days work in xp?

Hi

Open Help and Support and search for "drive letter" - without the quotes.
The 3rd option down should help you - "Assign, change or remove a drive
letter".
