The total size of my drive is 130 GB but reports that it has only 0.5 GB free
space in a 17 GB partition. Total files rerported only add up to about 6 GB.
What has filled up the remaining volume? Only two big files are reported
windows and documents & settings total about 3-4 GB

None of the disk software can see what takes up the drive space. I only use
the partition for the Win XP files.

I have restored a number of times as I amy setting up some systems which
conflict with SP2 fire wall. SP2 shuts down my internet connection via my
loacal
area net so I have restored the system a number of times trying to correct
the problem.

Is the unseen volume the multiple restore information and if so how to reset
and regain the disk space?????

Hi,

Go to My Computer/Properties/System Restore/, click the Setting button.
You can change the Restore file size to not more than 500Mb. Also run clean
up to clear temp files and unnecessary restore files.

Hope it helps.

And there are also a few other files that take up space that you may not
see. The pagefile and the hibernation file (if enabled) can take up
quite a bit of space depending on how much memory you have in your
computer. Say you have 512 MB of memory, you will have just shy of 2 GB
of HD space taken by both of these.

The key to this one is that he has set up a 17GB Partition in which he has
loaded WinXP. So I guess you will have to expand the partition with 3rd
party software.

Good luck
