hard drive file error

My one hard drive displays open space as open space, but used data as an
unknown file system type. and shows it as a RAW "unformatted" Space. But
only the data. So all that data is un reachable, How can I reset my file type
for that drive? Help,Help,Help!!!

What file system was it? Did it have an operating system installed on it?
