the device, \device\ide\ideport1, did not respond within
the timeout period.

source atapi
event id 9

this has happened consistently in my event viewer

in addition:
An error was detected on device \device\cdrom0 during a
paging operation.

source cdrom
event id 51

again...multiple events

in addition:
an error was detected on device \device\hardisk0 during a
paging operation.

Multiple events here too...

It appears that these are somehow related to system
crashes / blue screens of death / lost hard drive
errors...etc....i have a presario 700 ... running windows
xp...

anybody have anyideas for this?

For what it's worth, I've been getting a similar report:

period.

I too have a Presario (7598) and in which I have added a second slave
drive. This reconfiguration ran well without problems for about 6
months. Since then, the error report noted above manifests itself in a
freezing mouse and a haunted CD-Rom tray, that ejects and closes from
time to time of its own will.

I am running Win2000, however the above problem will also occur with
WinXP Home. In both cases, Windows reports the system setup as
hunky-dory.

My conclusion is that I have some kind of hardware or IRQ problem
(which intermittently is reported in the Event Viewer). What I have
noticed is that I can temporarily free the mouse lockup by operating
the CD-Rom eject/close. From a cold boot, and without ever using the
CD drive, this problem will sometimes show up, and sometimes not, in
any given session.

I think I need to replace my CD-Rom drive for being faulty, unless
anyone has any other suggestions??

Thanks
