hard drive died

my hard drive died,if I take out and freeze it will run for a few
minutes.bought new hard drive can I just copy windows folder from old
drive and get backup and running?

Temperature problems are a bearcat.

My suggestion would be to use a disk duplicate function (usually comes with
the new drive).

If you're in the frigid north (like I am) you might TRY putting it outside
(garage?) and blow a fan on it to keep it good and cold. Then with both
drives connected and copy from the old bad drive to the new one.

Might keep it working long enough to get the data off the bad drive.

It takes more than the Windows folder to get the computer to boot and run.
My suggestion would be to install Windows fresh, and then save whatever
files you need from the old drive.

Considering how bad you say the drive is, you probably aren't going to have
a lot of time to do the copying, and even if you could copy the whole drive,
there's a good chance you'd get a lot of copy errors along the way. Better
to just reinstall the programs and avoid the headaches.
