Hard Drive cannot be accessed

I have a problem that has arisen since I started using Norton Goback. My
second hard drive holds very important files which I can no longer access. I
tried disabling Goback and then uninstalled after I had no success with the
first option. When I rebooted I hoped this would resolve the problem but it
hasn't. I can see the drive in Task Manager and in Disk Management but I
can't access it. I have also noted that Type 44 showed up in relation to this
drive yet it is an NTFS formatted drive ... has anyone got an answer, I'm
desperate to gain access to my files. I am running Windows XP Home Edition
SP2. Incidentally, if I use Ghost to check the disc I can still see all the
folders on this drive!

I have, with the help of a friend, acquired some software from the Internet
which has, happily, resolved this issue. It was well worth what I paid for
it. It's GetDataBack available from Runtime Software. Anyone interested check
here http://www.runtime.org. All other file recovery programs failed to see
the HD but GetDataBack found it immediately after I had installed the trial
version and ran it. You do have to purchase the product in order to allow it
to recover your files but it was worth it!
