Rick

You could always reset the clock on your computer and
join the festivities.

Happy last year if that is your want!

most of you forgot about NEW YEARS 2000 .. Stock markets were suppose
to CRASH, The lights go DARK And your Pay Check not being issued ..

REMEMBER Y2K

So I guess we all need to be thankful We are still surviving ..

I got paid a big lump of change to be in my office that morning in case
disaster happened. Nothing did, but I still took the money and charged my
employer for breakfast too.

Y2k was one of the biggest Scamms there ever Was !

I think the reason there was no Y2K bust was because a lot of the folks (like
those on this list) did their job accordingly ahead of time to prevent such a
disaster. I know that at the company I worked for at the time, a task force
was formed to deal with all of our in-house apps, then go the next level to
all of the vendors and support services that we used to make sure all their
apps were Y2K compliant. And if the vendor had a vendor, we forced them to
make sure that they were compliant as well. I suspect a lot of that
preparatory behavior occurred throughout the world. And that's why Y2K
turned out to be a "scam".

I didn't forget about it. Planning had been done so I took the entire
family (13 of us, such a lucky number) on a trip to Walt Disney World to
celebrate Christmas, 1999 and the New Year, 2000. Saw the NY come in from
my condo in Orlando. Hey, the lights stayed on so I was happy and the plant
didn't crash back home.

It was no scam, it was a real issue that did surface in some ways,
fortunately nothing terribly disasterous happened due to the diligence
and timely response of technical staff. I am greatful that the technical
community announced the issue as early on as they did. It saved our
bacon. I work for a large school district, I was the lead in
implementing Y2K fixes and we had to upgrade or patch a _lot_ of OSes
(not just Windows), hardware, BIOSes and applications in order to avoid
some potentially _majo0r_ problems with financial and record keeping
processes. It was a major effort and it definitely paid off. Just
because no major problems arose from the issue doesn't make it a scam,
it shows how good we really are at our jobs!

There were a lot of scams perpetrated in the name of Y2K, the the
problem itself certainly wasn't a fantasy. I know that I, like you,
spent plenty of time planning, testing, and implementing precautions to
ensure that my employer had no troubles.

Of course, the technologically ignorant did fall for some awfully silly
doom and gloom scenarios. No one who new better, however expected
financial institutions, including the stock market, to have any
significant problems. After all, banks and stock markets had been
successfully and smoothly dealing with post-2000 dates since 1970 (Hint:
30-year mortgages, treasury bonds, etc.). Similarly, credit card
companies were all set by 1995, as most of there cards had a 5-year
expiration cycle.
