hanging on boot up

I have an HP Pavilion ze5500 laptop that came with OEM
installed XP Home with Service Pack 1. It has no further
patches as I don't currently have an internet connection
installed on it.

The laptop has a repeated problem with hanging on boot up -
it gets as far as the Windows XP splash screen and then
just sits there. Due to the lack of an internet
connection, it has never been connected to the web and the
one time I have used a floppy disc from another machine
I'm certain it was clean (so I don't think this is down to
a virus).

I have the Windows CD from the manufacturer and have run
the repair console, both disabling the Agp440.sys service
(as suggested in KB324764) and running FIXMBR (as
suggested in KB314503), but the laptop still refuses to
boot.

Does anyone have any other suggestions for fixing before I
reinstall the operating system, and is there any way of
stopping this happening again or am I stuck with having to
reinstall every few months?

What happens when you try booting into safe mode
(http://support.microsoft.com/?id=315222) ?
If it stopped at Agp440 as described in the article: KB324764, where does it
stop after bootinf into the Safe Mode ?

Sorry, I should have included that. Booting into safe
mode stops in exactly the same place, both before and
after the repair console sessions.

Choose Enable Boot Logging in advance menu.
When it hangs restart and choose Safe Mode.

When it hangs again go to recover console and type:

more Ntbtlog.txt

Press <space> until everything in the file is scrolled.

Could you trascript the last 5 lines of the command output ?
