when I end playing Half Life my computer freezes up on me for the most part.
I was playing it in the direct 3D mode swited it to open GL and that seemed
to fix the problem. I'm running it on a 2.4 P4 with 512 mgs of ram with an
ATI Radeon 9000 with 64 mgs of ram. has any body else run into the same
problems? and know of a fix or work around? I also have the latest catalyst
drivers for for my card and I'm running direct X 9.0b.

Could be anything. I would not have installed DX 9.0,
your video card is not ready for it, you may want to
check with the manufacturers web site for another fix?
You may want to try to restall the game again, but I
think it is likely the DX 9.0, it was designed for newer
cards/games

Half-Life runs better, and was designed to run, in OpenGL mode. If running
in OpenGL solves the problem then I would advise leaving it in OpenGL mode.

Update any/all chipset drivers. This usually corrects the problem (well at
least on my P4).
