Running WinXP Pro w/ SP1 and also Norton Anitvirus 2004
Corporate Edition. Loaded latest virus definitions, ran
scan found a couple of problems. Took care of those. Not
long until started getting Macro problems when IE 6 would
shut down. Word was on tool bar when Macro error was
present.

Rebooted system and now being told that:
Windows unable to start....
<Windows Root>system32/hal.dll is corrupted or missing.
Reinstall file to continue.

System will not o past this point. System restore does
not work either. When I am able to view C: drive in 3rd
party software. It reads 0! Acts as if there is not info
or partitioan on the drive.

While all that, How do you get in to reload hal.dll or am
I just going to have to format and reload WinXP Pro.

Thanks,

Randy,

A better suited newsgroup would be microsoft.public.windowsxp.general

This could be anything from hard disk failure, to virus problems, etc,
etc,....

HTH,

Brad

hal.dll went missing, from my whatsit once or twice, and
I discovered most of my problems came from an outdated
onboard VGA driver.Yesterday I installed NVIDIA XP Driver
v53.03 WHQL, and all my problems seem to have
dissappeared. Please remember , this is my first computer.
Trust an expert ,not me!
