I am installing a new windows XP Pro on am new harddrive, after windows
formats and copies the files to the harddrive I get the message missing or
corrupt file hal.dll. I have tried some of the fixes posted but still come up
witht he same problem, is it posiable that the file on the install cd is
bad??

You may need a system bios upgrade or this article may help.

Thank you for your info, after falling what I could of the site I am still
having the same problem. Most of the problems with the part about the
boot.ini file deal with the fact that one needs to be in the GUE interface, I
can not get this far.

This was a good site, easy to read, but when I type bootcfg /rebuild the
system ask me where I want to add the installation, enter a load identifier,
and enter OS load options, any ideas what these may be?

| So maybe if I tried the install on a newer motherboard that might help?

multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Windows XP Professional"
/fastdetect

'where' is the partition location multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1) (You
haven't mentioned what kind of hard drive or what partition, so your
description may be different.)
'load identifier' is the name you put in between the quotes "Windows XP
Professional"
'load options' would be /fastdetect
