Hi - today I received an Email as follows:

This is an automatically-generated response from the AOL
Instant Messenger (TM) service. The information you
requested is "aaaaaaa"
------ And he was correct!! - this is my AOL password. I
wrote to AOL, and all I got was 'This is a hoax, suggest
you reset your password'
My point is --- no hoax, he was correct.
Help please - How did he do it? (I have never used
Instant Messenger), & how can I protest my PC?
Thanks, --- Stan

What they did was request your pasword be sent to you.

The email you got was legit from AOL, it's what you get if you forget your
password and want them to send it. Problem is, somebody else requested it.
Why someone would do this, I don't know. If they have some means of
intercepting the email then I would suggest changing your password.

Special note if you use AOL:

America Online installs its own connection settings that override
the ones that come with Windows XP. America Online's
connection settings don't include a way to turn on Windows XP's
built-in firewall.
