Grouping objects

hello--

PowerPoint's group (actually for any of the Microsoft
apps) does not work on all objects. For instance, I try
to group a textbox, clip art, and a square, but it will
not let me group the clip art. Am I missing a step, or
is there an issue with grouping certain types of objects?

I know it's not possible to group default (text) placeholders of powerpoint
masters - could that be the problem?
