grinding noise from tower

After upgrading hard drive and installing Windows XP and
Windows Office 2000, when I try to open a file in Word,
Excel, Or Powerpoint, the hard drive makes a loud
grinding noise? How do I get rid of noise?

A loud grinding noise coming from a hard drive could mean that the drive is damage and/or about to break. You should backup your data and probably think about getting a new hard drive or repairing the one you have.
