Green Forward

I have started to get the word "Forward" appearing in the bottom right of the
screen. It doesn't seem to matter what programs are open.

It causes the bottom of the screen to flicker.
Has anyone had this happen to them or how to stop it?

Did you install any software just before that started to happen?

What happens if you click on it or right-click on it?

Maybe a menu comes up that IDs the program.

Are any strange programs trying to access the web as reported by your
firewall?

I would run updated virus and spyware scanners if you can't ID the program.

If none of the usual scanners help, try using HijackThis from
http://www.spywareinfo.com/ and post the log it generates to one of the
recommended forums for analysis.

No I don't think its new software, and I can't click on it. I thought I had
seen it before somewhere and I thought it was related to Windows XP, possibly
something that has been tuned on accidentally ?

My guess you have a fast forward key on your keyboard stuck, and the
text on screen is emitted by your computer, rather than Windows or a
particular program.

AFAIK, this has nothing to do with XP. You've installed something or
your computer has "picked up" something. Your first troubleshooting
steps should be to ensure that the computer is 100% virus/malware-free.
Go through these steps to do that:

After you are sure the computer is clean, if the problem persist do
clean-boot troubleshooting to find out what is running:

Ooh, that's an excellent answer Mr. Williams! Thanks so much for
reminding me that a lot of people have "multimedia keyboards". Since I
never use them, I tend to forget about them. Or the OP has a laptop and
the keyboard has gone wonky.

I do hope Frank comes back and tells us, but thanks for the insight
anyway.

Thanks, I do have a laptop, and some of the keys are sticky, I'll see if I
can identify which key is the fast forward key. I thought it would be
something like that but wasn't sure. Thanks Again.

Thanks for coming back to let us know. Since this is a laptop, contact
the laptop mftr.'s tech support for keyboard replacement.

Thanks, it was the keyboard. The "Page Forward" key above the right arrow key
was sticking. The button above the left arrow key says "BACKWARDS" in large
green letters when pressed. They move you forward or backwards on the various
windows screens that you have open at the time.

Thanks Again, I fixed it with some keyboard cleaner.
