green cast on photosmart scans

I have the original (SCSI) Photosmart scanner. I know it is old, but it still
does slides and 35mm negatives just fine.

However in print scan mode, the dark areas on the right side of the scanner have
a significant green cast. The cast also has a faint stripe pattern that matches
the rollers on the upper lid. I have tried cleaning the rollers with alcohol so
the all look clean.

Any suggestions on what I can do to alleviate the problem?

You did not give the exact model of your scanner.

This is a link to as search on HP support for "clean mirror scanner"
http://search.hp.com/query.html?qt=...//www.hp.com/error.html&submit.x=7&submit.y=3

Maybe some idea in there somewhere.
