I posted a problem with general tab missing last night
and had an answer within 30 minutes. I wasn't sure it
could be trusted because it involved editing the
registry, so I called MS. I waited 1 hr for a tech that
took 30 minutes trying everything before trying what was
posted as a solution on this site. The tech acted
uninformed about this site and will probably check here
for future unknowns!

Blows your mind, doesn't it?

I tell people to come here all the time because of the great help I've
received.

It is indeed a great place to come, but preferably =after= sticking your
query into groups.google.com .. since the chance that you are the first
person to ask the question is 'slim to none', and google already has 15+
years of answers (not, admittedly, to WinXP questions, since it hasn't
been around that long. 8>.)

One can only imagine how much of a mess we'd have without this forum
to resolve XP problems. OTH, there seem to be so many problems here
that people have a lot of difficulty finding their own query...something
like a thousand posts a day...now that's a lot of problems? It would help
if everyone would refrain from posting "..me too..", or "XP sux" or "XP's
the most stable ever", and yes, threads and messages just exactly like
this one. We could cut the number of posts at least in half if we could
educate XP users about Google Advanced Search:

http://groups.google.com/advanced_group_search

Or simply the Find button on the toolbar!
