gray color in design view on R and L side of "page"

something happened to a site:

In design view, I see gray on right and left side
In preview, my page appears as a frame

when I publish it appears correct (no frame)

what have I done?

It has affected all my sites in Front Page, so it must be some View Front
Page setting?

On the right side of the status bar on the bottom of the page in design view,
just above the Windows System Tray ( where the clock lives ) should be a
little rectangle with some numbers in it, example: 760 x 420

Place the mouse cursor in that rectangle and click once.
Set the size that matches the size of your design view page.
