graphics accerlerator

I am using windows XP. I purchased a Radeon 9550 graphics acclerator.
Following the install directions for the hardware, I uninstalled my other
software. then put in the hardware. When I restart the pc there is just a
black screen as if there is no signal. The fan on the hardware is not
running. The directions stated that an additional power source may be
needed. (but not always) Could this be the reason why it is not working.
(power supply) Or could I possibly have another issue?
 
Thank You. That is what I thought but I just wanted to make sure. Now I
just have to get the right power connector because it did not come with one.

Naturally it didn't come with one. You are supposed to attach one of the
spare molex connectors from your computer's power supply to the video
card.

This doesn't make any sense. If your card has a power supply connector,
it is one that fits a standard molex power supply. I Googled around for
a picture of the Radeon 9550 and I don't see where there is an extra
power supply connection on the card anyway.

Take the card out and reseat it. Make sure you have attached it snugly
to your monitor. If you still don't see anything, try the card in a
different computer. You may have a dead card. Or have someone
knowledgeable take a look for you.
