I am having a problem due to what I think is a virus but I cant tell. Several things in my system have changed but I cant seem to do anything about it...here's the list.

1. Window's media player...I simply cant get it to work. I insert a disc and it wont run. I double click the icon and just get a ding, but nothing happens. It simply wont play.
2. I am getting lots of popups that used to be blocked.
3. I cant control my start page for the internet. I went into tools and changed the address to page that I prefer, but everytime I go online, I am taken to this "searchpage" instead of Charter MSN startpage.
4. I run my Scandisc Norton Software and it isn't showing any viruses found, but I am getting an occaisional message popup message from Norton saying there is a virus present.
5. I cant install updates from MIcrosoft. Specifically the one that asks you to disenable anti-virus software before installing. I dont know how to disengage this software to begin with...

Does anyone have any ideas?

1-3, All Malware related.

If WMP doesn't open when you click on the icon or the WMP icon has changed
it is likely being caused by Malware on your system. There are mor than a
few programs that willl help you get ride of this. Below are some options
for you to try.

PestPatrol

CWShredder

Housecall AntiVirus
http://housecall.trendmicro.com/

Ad-aware

After you get all of the malware removed then you will want to reinstall
Windows Media Player over itself. Depending on how WMP was installed on
your machine you may already have the installer. If you do it is located in
C:\Program Files\Windows Media Player\Installer. The file name of the
installer is "mpsetupxp.exe"

If you don't see the folder then run C:\Program Files\Windows Media
Player\setup_wm.exe and that will re-download the installer and install it.
