Recently the "Google Desktop Search" icon disappeared from my takbar. This
program is not listed under "Add/Remove Programs" When I tried to download it
again I got a message that it is already installed on the computer. How can I
find and re-enable or delete it so I can download it again? I have Windows XP
Home with SP2

Normally it is installed to
C:\Program Files\Google\Google Desktop Search\GoogleDesktop.exe

If that file is missing, then you'd probably need to delete any references
to it in the registry before you can reinstall it.

I have looked in the registry, but have not been able to find it. Any
suggestions? Thanks for your interest and help.

I'm not sure what the installer looks for when it finds your previous
installation. Perhaps you can just open regedit, press <home>, then press
<f3> and enter "google" in the search form to find any locations that
remain in the registry. I'd guess somewhere in HKLM\Software or
HKCU\Software but there might be more or different locations.
