Dear All,

I've recenlty got rid in ZoneAlarm, and gone to Windows Built in firewall,
and now I can't access my laptop over the LAN. I'm guessing there is a
setting that I need to change, but I can't find it. I've changed the
settings within the "Advanced" option to allow me to connect using
pcAnywhere for remote access, but I can't acess it from "My Network Places".

Is there something I should be looking for, or changing?

Regards.
Paul.

Enable the exception for File and Printer Sharing in Windows Firewall.

ZoneAlarm sometimes leaves bits of itself behind when you uninstall
it. Go to Start | Run | Msconfig | Startup and disable any remaining
bits, such as the TrueVector service.

Hi Steve,
Enable the exception for File and Printer Sharing in Windows Firewall.

That option is already activated in the "Advanced" options, and also in the
"Edit Service" & "Change Scope" option, it is set at

TCP 139 & 445, and UDP 137 & 138 and "My Network (subnet) only"

I've looked and it would appear that it has removed everything, I can't seen
a "Ture Vector" service.

Any other thoughts?

Regards.

Make sure that "File and Printer Sharing" is checked on the Exceptions
tab. You shouldn't have to make any settings in "Advanced" options,
"Edit Service", or "Change Scope"

I only mentioned TrueVector as a possible example. Look at all the
startup items, and un-check the boxes for anything related to
ZoneAlarm.
Hi Steve,

Any other thoughts?

Boot the computer in "Safe mode with networking" and see if other
computers can access it over the LAN. If they can, something in the
Startup programs is probably causing the problem.

They were ticked, and I didn't change anything in there, I was just giving
you the figures in case they were wrong.

Yeah, I knew that, I checked for all refences relating to ZoneAlarm, and
there is nothing apparent left.

I have noticed though, when I turn off Windows Firewall I have no problems
connecting, turn it back in, and I can't connect..

Regards.
Paul.
