I've tried that. I currently use Outlook 2003 and it works great. But the
same setting do not work with Vista Mail.

Got me foxed now, I don't know, sorry!

May be there is a conflict and it's possible you can't use Outlook 2003 and
Windows Mail at the same time?

Sorry I can't be of any more help. I don't use Outlook 2003, just Windows
Mail and my GMail works great.

Good luck.
Sandie

OK. What i'll do is disable Outlook 2003. What are your configuration setting
for GMAIL and maybe i'm doing something wrong?

How do I configure the new Vista mail program with GMAIL?

You follow the instruction for Outlook Express....

To configure your client:
1.. Enable POP in your Google Mail account.
2.. Open Outlook or Outlook Express.
3.. Click the 'Tools' menu, and select 'Accounts...'
4.. Click 'Add,' and then click 'Mail...'
5.. Enter your name in the 'Display name:' field, and click 'Next.'
6.. Enter your full Google Mail email address ([email protected]) in
the 'Email address:' field, and click 'Next.'
7.. Enter 'pop.googlemail.com' in the 'Incoming mail (POP3, IMAP or HTTP)
server:' field. Enter 'smtp.googlemail.com' in the 'Outgoing mail (SMTP)
server:' field.
8.. Click 'Next.'
9.. Enter your Google Mail username (including '@googlemail.com') in the
'Account name:' field. Enter your Google Mail password in the 'Password:'
field, and click 'Next.'
10.. Click 'Finish.'
11.. Highlight 'pop.googlemail.com' under 'Account,' and click
'Properties.'
12.. Click the 'Advanced' tab.
13.. Select the box next to 'This server requires a secure connection
(SSL)' under 'Outgoing Mail (SMTP).'
14.. Enter '465' in the 'Outgoing mail (SMTP):' field.
15.. Select the box next to 'This server requires a secure connection
(SSL)' under 'Incoming mail (POP3).' The port will change to 995.
*The order of 'Outgoing' and 'Incoming' mail server fields varies by
version. Make sure you enter the correct information in each field.
16.. Click the 'Servers' tab, and check the box next to 'My server
requires authentication.'
17.. Click 'OK.'
Congratulations! You've finished configuring your client to send and
retrieve Google Mail messages.

* Did you click 'Save Changes' after enabling POP in Google Mail? To ensure
that Google Mail can communicate with your mail client, make sure you click
'Save Changes' on the 'Forwarding and POP' tab in your Google Mail settings.

How do I enable POP?
You can retrieve your Google Mail messages with a client or device that
supports POP, like Microsoft Outlook or Netscape Mail.

To enable POP in your Google Mail account:

1.. Log in to your Google Mail account.
2.. Click Settings at the top of any Google Mail page.
3.. Click Forwarding and POP in the orange Mail Settings box.

4.. Select Enable POP for all mail or Enable POP for mail that arrives
from now on.
5.. Choose the action that you would like your Google Mail messages to
take after they are accessed with POP.

1. Recheck account information, make sure account is not case sensitive
(most are), close OE and restart computer before attempting to re-connect.
Also set up a different identity and see if OE will allow logon form a
different identity with same information.

2. Make sure your account is still active with the ISP and that the ISP is
not having an e-mail outage.

Have you enabled Gmail POP?

For some strange reason many people think the instructions
are meant for them.

This error message happens when you have enabled
"Log on using secure password authentication." That option
should NOT be enabled.
