I'm trying to set up my Windows Mail account and can receive mail, but I'm
not able to send mail. I'm getting the following error message....

The message could not be sent. The authentication setting might not be
correct for your outgoing e-mail [SMTP] server. For help solving this
problem, go to Help, search for "Troubleshoot Windows Mail", and read the
"I'm having problems sending e-mail" section. If you need help determining
the proper server settings, please contact your e-mail service provider.

The rejected e-mail address was '(e-mail address removed)'. Subject 'Office
2003', Account: 'pop.gmail.com', Server: 'smtp.gmail.com', Protocol: SMTP,
Server Response: '530 5.7.0 Must issue a STARTTLS command first
s33sm6378352hub.32', Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 530, Error
Number: 0x800CCC78

The instructions cover both the IMAP and the POP methods of
connecting. Choose one of these, and don't get them mixed up.

Tools menu>accounts>select gmail account>properties>advanced tab>change out
going server port to 465 from 25, and select SSL>ok/apply.

I had this problem too. I'd done all the stuff about setting the pot number
and it still didn't work. But after that...

This worked for me.

In windows mail goto Tools/Accounts.

Click the gmail account you have set up. Then click Properties

Click Servers

Click "My Server requires authentication" so a tick appears in the box. Then
click Settings. In pop up window click "Use the same settings as my incoming
email" Then click ok. Then click Apply and OK which should take you back to
windows mail.

Try sending a mail via gmail. It worked for me !

Good Luck

Sure that is what I said 24 hours ago?
