I just bought a motherboard Gigabyte 8S655FX. I am trying
to upgrade my memory from 512 to 1024, bu for some reason
it only shows the 512. Is there anything I can do to make
the system recognize the other memory. The motherboard
has 4 slots, so I suppose it would take up to 4GB of
memory.
Any help is welcome.

Thanks

Carlos

Did you read the manual? Your new MOBO can handle up to 4gigs, but it is what configuration you have of RAM, and then configured in the MOBO. Then they must match in all aspects in each slot. When booted to Windows XP (as is 2000, and NT4.0), it is not very good with mixing different types of RAM as is 98/ME. Be sure each module is matched, and that the RAM is of good quality.

Check that the RAM is also good, and not faulty if you meet the above specs. You can do this by removing the modules , and using individual one as needed and booting up.

Yes, you want to make sure that your memory modules are the same so that
you can run them in Dual Channel. If you are currently running them in
Dual Channel Mode, this may be the cause of your problem. There are some
issues with Dual Channel and the amount of memory not being reported
properly. I highly recommend making sure you are running the latest
BIOS which would be F5 (DO NOT USE F6a as it is still in Beta). Here is
a link for your BIOS updates:
