I have tried to save many .gif's (animations from various sites) onto my
computer and the only option I get is to save as .bmp. I have tried just
naming them whatever.gif but that doesn't affect the type of file it is saved
as. So the result is they become just a still picture not an animation.
..bmp is the only option I am given for file types to save as.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance!

Clear the Temporary Internet Files. In IE>Tools>Internet
Options>
Delete Files button. And check the box to Delete Offline
content.

It's time to perform some computer housecleaning chores:

Go to Start > Run and type: CLEANMGR.EXE , and hit enter.
This will start your disk cleanup utility. Make sure to cleanup
your Temporary Internet Files.

Can you save (say) jpg's but not gif's?

The behavior you're describing is similar to what happens
when the Internet cache is too full but then you can't save
any graphic files in any format other that bmp.

Open IE and go to Tools, Internet Options, and on the General Tab click
Delete Files. Then try saving your pictures. Best of luck.

Nevermind. I found many other threads here where this was discussed. Sorry
to have wasted your time.

Thanks again.
