Ghost pages

Sometimes when we open a doc in XP we view a 'ghost page'
between the Heading page and the rest of the document.
When we scroll up and down we lose this blank 'ghost'page.
The problem is sometimes when the client prints the
document this ghost page will appear (Sometimes it won't).
Is there some way of stopping this blank page from
mysteriously appearing?
Thanks

Do you have an Odd Page section break?

As a guess, there is something that is confusing Word about how long
the first page is.

What is on the first page, and what is on the second page? Are there
any section breaks, manual page breaks, headers or footers? Any "page
break before" formatting? Any tables, images,or objects?

When the ghost page appears on the screen, turn on formatting marks
and look to see whether there is an empty paragraph mark on the page.
