I am getting a virus warning using AVG free addition saying to run the
program to clear the virus. The problem is that the software is not picking
it up as it is in the restore section of Xp. How can you delete a resore
point in xp?

Run 'cleanmgr.exe' normally in the windows directory,
select the more options tab, then the third button. I
would create a restore point 1st so that the offending
backup is removed as cleanmgr will not wipe your last
restore point, only all the previous 1's!

Right-click on My Computer and choose Properties (or go to the System
applet in Control Panel). You will see a tab for System Restore. Check
the box that says "disable System Restore". Reboot your machine. Clean
the virus (best to run AVG in Safe Mode in case anything is
memory-resident). Reboot your machine. Go back to the System Restore
tab and enable it again. You don't want to run cleanmgr because you
don't want to save anything in System Restore.
