I got IE6 loaded with a new HP computer that has a shockingly ugly toolbar skin (purple??)

Can anyone let me know how do I get rid of it and bring it back to the orginal/default skin?

Skin? If it is just a toolbar wallpaper, then you can remove it by
deleting the Registry key that holds it.
Try removing it with Regedit.
Start-Run-Regedit
Navigate to this key:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\software\microsoft\Internet Explorer\Toolbar
Delete "BackBitmapIE5" and "BackBitmap" if either are there.

or... try this:

How to remove branding.
To remove all Internet Explorer branding, follow these steps:
1. Click Start.
2. Click Run.
3. Type

rundll32.exe iedkcs32.dll,Clear

and then click OK.

4. Restart Internet Explorer.
