Getting rid of extra step when pulling up templates in Office apps?

An annoyance that really needs getting rid of. When I click on the
FILES > NEW or the icon to bring up the templates box, XP brings up a
secondary menu that in my computer docks on the right-hand side of the
screen. That is so terribly annoying, esp. when after using the
computer for a bit and I have to further scroll down to get to the
templates option that _then_ brings up the templates box I'm looking
for.

Any way to ditch the extra, annoying step and to have the templates
box pop up just like it's done forever in Win98SE and W2K??

Thanks so much. Appreciate the help. :oD

try asking in microsoft.public.office.misc, or another Office related
newsgroup. This is a WindowsXP group.

And a little more info would be helpful -like which version of Word/Office
are you using? If you changed versions of Word at the time you upgraded
Windows version, it's probably a new "feature" you're seeing, not an OS
problem.

Okay.

Understood. I'm still relatively new to XP so didn't separate that
from the apps themselves. Darn, it means I have to ask in more than
one, then. Ah well.

Thanks.
