They are infrequent and started a couple of days ago and are in a box with
an "AdServer" tag. . .or something like that. What's going on?

Do they appear in response to any specific site? If so, some site has found
a way around firefox's popup blocking.

If they seem to appear even when you are not actively surfing the web, you
might have some adware installed on your computer that is generating the
popups.

In this case, run antispyware software like Ad-aware, Spybot S&D, Microsoft
Antispyware etc to see if anything comes up.

A HJT log post to http://forums.spywareinfo.com/ might also help.

Which site? Because, quite frankly, I don't believe you.

There was a brief episode of "popunders" with Firefox. I have to think this
person has not updated to 1.0.3.

I am replying to the poster who did not believe that pop ups were
causing anuisance on Firefox. For your information:

1. I am running 1.0.3

2. I have experienced popup ads for a casino, telling me I have won a prize.

3. I used my System Mechanic pop up Blocker to get rid of them.

So there definitely are such popups...unless you don't believe me either!!

Again, which site? Without a site to check, I don't believe it.
If you're so sure there are popups, PROVE IT BY NAMING A SITE!

I did try to find out which site it was. I am just a home user and as
soon as I first saw these popups, I immediately closed them. Then I
realised I should get Syatem mechanic to stop them. I did this, but
there are long lists in the pop up blocker of sites on the black
list...so unfortunately, i cannot tell you the name.

You seem very paranoid, if you do not mind me saying so. I would have no
reason to lie about this experience. So, if you don't belive me, that is
your problem, not mine. I do not have to prove anything..I am simply
reporting what happened.

I love Firefox, though I am worried about the current security problem.
I never use IE anymore. I am not trying to slag off FF.

Z1.adserver.com has been opening popups in Firefox here. Not detected by
Adaware, Spybot or Microsoft anti-spyware.

For a better FF experience, use the adblock extension and do what it

Very simple & I have yet to see a popup since configuring FF in this
manner.

Same here. I started using this extension months ago, and haven't had to
deal with any pop-ups since. What few it doesn't catch are stopped by
FF's built-in blocker. All I have to do is update the filters once a
week. I would recommend this to anyone.

Not for me. But, even if it did, could you perhaps post a different
URL which isn't explicitly linked to advertising? Sheesh! :)

I've seen a lot of false claims of Firefox in my time. :)

Well, if you publically state that Firefox does something, but then
can't back it up with proof, then I shall have to assume you're just
another one of those people who make false claims. :)

I just got that file yesterday, so it'll be interesting to see if the
small incidences of popups in FF stop with this. I'm sure the will,
but it'll still be neat to see. <g>

Brain,

Before I started using ADBLOCK, I would get a "tickle" popup from
http://drudgereport.com/.

Just now, I disabled ADBLOCK and was -unable- to reproduce the
popups. However, I've upgraded from 1.0.x to 1.0.3 in the interim.
Perhaps the pop blocker was improved in 1.0.3

False claims?

Brian,
Of course it is linked to advertising. It's a popup.
