XP came installed on my Compaq Laptop and I am having
problems with video games I want to play. I had no
problems before when using Windows 98 on my other
computer. How can I uninstall XP and get 98 onto my
laptop??

Any assistance is greatly appreciated.

Regards,

Odds are you can't not do that. The laptop vendor would have to supply you
with 98 compatible drivers for all your hardware and they probably don't
have them.

Your best option is to address the problems your games are having.

And, sorry to report (as my sons are), XP and games don't necessarily go
well together. I've had better luck simply making a house rule that all
games go on the Win 98 box. There they "just work" without fiddling.

You can have a duel booting system, I'm not sure how easy
it is to install win98 as a second os. If there is
nothing important on the laptop the easiest (if somewhat
time consuming) way, would be to boot from a win98 cd,
format the hard drive as 2 partitions, installing win98
on the first. When you've finished that insert the xp cd
and chose NOT to upgrade, but install a new/clean
installation on the second partition. Once that's
finished you will be able to chose which os to boot to.

If you have a relatively small hard drive (< 6gig) then
make sure you leave the second partition big enough for
xp, win98 doesn;t need a big partition. Also I can't
remember weather win98 can read ntfs, so that would be
something to remember, but if you format both partitions
with win98 that won't be an issue.

Like Walter Clayton said, it is possible that finding
win98 drivers for new hardware might be difficult, but
usually these things are possible :)

cheers, Jamie

Not only that, Walt, but he'd void the warranty.

Perdi

P.S. Can't not - that's a double negative and you know what two negatives
make! ;o)
