getting joystick to work using Able2Play

Andy

I followed the instructions on another post to set up the
Able2Play account and I can now run FS2000 without being
an administator. The problem is that the default run
situation seems to be that the joystick in NOT enabled
and running under Able2Play does not allow me to enable
it. Any ideas what I need to do?

Hi Andy,

That's a unique problem. I would temporarily grant Administrator
status to the limited user account that is unable to use the joystick.
Once that's done, test the joystick in the Control Panel / Game
Controller section, and afterwards test it with FS2000.

Those steps should create all the registry keys and DirectX Input
values needed for that limited user to use the joystick in the futur.

Hope this works for you Andy, and have a great day! :-)

Thanks Jimmy. However, I have tried this and it still
does not allow the limited user to select "enable
Joystick" from the menu. By the way before I did
anything you suggested the limited users could already
see the joystick in the control panel and calibrate etc.
It seems the problem is within FS2000. It is OK when
they have admin rights though.

Any more ideas?

Hi Andy,

With their accounts set as Administrators accounts is there
no way to set "Enable Joystick" option to default? If not,
there might be a .ini type file in the game's directory where
this setting could be set to ON. I don't have the game to
verify that theory though unfortunately. Hope this helps!

Jimmy, I already tried looking for that. It seems stupid
that you can't, as most people would use a joystick. Do
you have any isdea what I should look for in the
registry? I will make a back up of the regisrtyu first.
Is making a backup the same as Win 98?
Cheers

Hi Andy,

To backup your complete registry, select the "My Computer" object
in the registry editor, and then use File / Export... to save it. I suggest
trying one of the simulation newsgroups, look for Katy Pluta there, in
case there's a known cure for this type of situation. Best of luck! :-)
