I am thinking of replacing my MN -500 with a Linksys WRT54G and would
appreciate any experience and comments regarding this product.

TIA

Hi
Assuming that you are in the USA.
The current version v5–v6 of the WRT54G are not so Hot.
I would spend a little more and take the WRT54L (If necessary, it can be
augmented with 3rd party firmware to add a lot of functions).
If you do not want to play around the best choice among entry level Wireless
Routers is the Buffalo WHR-HP-G54. With a matching card it can do its
version of "SuperG" 125Mb/sec. As is it can also work as WDS or Client unit
if necessary, it even can be flashed with 3rd party firmware as the WRT54L.

Buffalo offers a less expensive similar unit that is not High Power (It has
the same power as the regular Linksys and most other entery level Wireless
Router).

Disclaimer, I have no connection with Buffalo,or any other Brand mentioned
above, my comments are based on hardware that I buy with my own funds.

Can you be a little more specific?? What are the problems with the WRT54G
that you allude to and does that include the WRT54GX2?

Thanks,

I have had several WRT54G routers, referred friends to purchase others, and
have had no problems whatsoever with them.

Hi
WRT54Gv5-6 has less RAM, and the OS was switched from an open source to
propriety.
VxWorks (the current OS) does not seem as stable as compare to v4.
Linksys offers now WRT54L, which is the old WRT54Gv4. The WRT54L is more
expensive than the WRT54G v5-6,(I.e. the older WRT54G v4 is more expensive
than the newer WRT54Gv5-6).
The WRT54GX2 is a pre release of MIMO, my personal position is Not to buy
any of the 802.11n pre releases, http://www.ezlan.net/faq#MIMO
