Im trying to reload XP and get this message at the last 13 minutes of the process. I see im not the only one and someone suggested reloading msdn 2.8.

ok so how do i do this, i have copied the download to disk, do i just inser the disk when i get to the error point again? how do I access the drive before XP kicks in with the finish install?

This is caused by Windows XP improperly naming the msdart dll file.
Download (save) DARTFIX.BAT to your desktop and click on it. This will
make a copy of MSDART.DLL and name it MSDART32.DLL. It will be placed
in the Windows/System32 directory.

Thank you for the tip but can you tell me how I save it to my desktop when the machine that needs it has no desktop features because it is stuck trying to load the xp operating system. When I switch the machine on it goes straight into XP finishing setup 20 minutes later it get back to this point where the problem is and freezes.

I did save that file to floppy on a different machine and tried leaving it in the drive of the problem machine to see if it did anything but of course it did not. How do I access Windows/System32 directory if I cannot get the system down loaded to open a desk top?

Please can you be so kind as to help.
