Is there a way to get Windows Explorer to show the hidden shares (ex: C$)
when you browse a remote computer?

Thanks,
Josh

Josh,

By definition, the browser will not enumerate hidden shares.

ShareUI from NT4 RK could help. Most native way is to use the *fsmgmt.msc
/computer={computername}* snap-in.

Yeah, I know hot to manage shares, but there's not a registry key or
something for Windows Explorer to show the hidden shares, just like you
have change the defaults to show hidden files & file extensions?

Okay, you've confused me. Is not the concept of hidden shares purely a
Windows Explorer parsing the share name for a $ at the end and not
displaying it? (Which is what I would like it to not do - there's not a
setting or registry key or something to fix that?). If I run a packet
sniffer on my Windows XP computer while accessing a remote computer, it
looks like my computer definitely retrieves a list of shares that includes
all the hidden ones.

My problem is I occasionally need to manually access files on users' hard
drives - they are supposed to have standardized C$ and D$ drives, however
some of them will have $C and $E instead, etc, which I can never remember.
I know I can use other tools to figure this out every time I need to.
However, I also have a Linux PC and when you use the SMB Client built into
Konqueror to browse a PC, it does show the hidden
drive shares in the share list, and that would be a heck
of a time saver if Windows Explorer worked that way as well.

Thanks,
Josh

Josh,

Windows Explorer only shows a share list maintained by the browser (don't
confuse this with Internet Explorer). The browser doesn't enumerate $ shares.
