XP has been newly installed on my computer. At start up, there is a voice
saying that my computer is now starting up (or something like that). How can
I get rid of this voice at start up?

Sounds applet in Control Panel.

That is a function of your computer bios. My Asus motherboards have this
function and I am sure others do also. It can be turned off after entering
the bios.

Press delete repeatedly ( for Asus boards), about once per second, during
the initial phase of the boot. Then you will have to search for the option.
Turn it off, save and exit.

If another make board you will have to read your manual to see how to enter
the bios.
