There is no DOS under WinXP, only a Command Prompt.
The Command Prompt is a process within WinXP - it does
not exist on its own.

Did you really load WinXP? What do you get when you type
the following commands:
ver
set

Windows XP does not contain any real DOS - just an emulator.

At the DOS prompt enter VER and report the results back here.

It should report "Microsoft Windows XP [version 5.1.2600]. If not
then something is seriously amiss and your Windows XP is not
installed.

And if you do get the proper version reported then pressing Alt+Tab
should bring you to the Windows XP desktop, and pressing Ctrl+Esc
should bring up the Windows XP Start Menu, even if the DOS windows are
running full screen.

Good luck

If you used FDISK (W98) option do you take out the floppy containing the
fdisk option when you reboot.
