SpeedStep problem:
Apparently there is supposed to be an Intel SpeedStep tab in the Power control panel, where you can set the CPU speed. This is not present, and I think the unit may always be running at 600MHz at the moment. Hopefully a BIOS update will fix this. The laptop's BIOS is dated June 2004, but one from August can be downloaded from Gericom's web site. Has anyone else had this problem? There is also a keyboard BIOS update available, which may fix trackpad/mouse problems that someone else mentioned.

The above was posted in response to a thread "Aldi laptop any good?".

1. Can anybody confirm if this is the case? I'd be most miffed if my Centrino 1.7GHz was only running at 600MHz:mad:

2. How can you check if this is happening i.e is there a program within XP or something else?

I wrote the posting you quoted, and have just edited it. There is probably no problem with the SpeedStep support. I read on an Intel web page that there should be a SpeedStep tab in the power control panel, but apparently that's only for earlier versions of Windows.

The laptop is initially set to use "adaptive" mode when running on both battery and mains power. That means the CPU speed varies between 600MHz and 1.7GHz.

Assuming it is compatible with this laptop, the SpeedswitchXP utility will allow easy changing of the power mode on-the-fly.

Thanks for your help.

I have also downloaded the EGO User Manual, which help explain one or two nagging doubts.

Anyway, 2 weeks on....I am really pleased with my EGO Laptop.

Gericom ego at 600 mhz ...

hi,
my centrino 1,5 ghz is only running at 600 mhz too.
I just buy a gericom ego 1560.
Without battery, plugged on AC, "always on" activated in the power saving menu, the speed is always 600 mhz, whatever is the cpu usage under windows.
SpeedswitchXP never switch to higher speeds and all the tests I run always reports a 600 mhz cpu (Everest home edition, cpu-z, intel processor ID utility, Hot CPU tester pro).
Gericom support tell me that if windows report 600 mhz, it is on account of speedstep technology. It could be, but it is wrong in this case. CPU speed is really 600 mhz, never more, and the laptop performance in the benchmarks are equal to a PIII 700 mhz (performance value with TestLAB 2003 express : 094 like a PIII 700E).
Did somebody solve this problem ?
Thank-you for your reply
