Hi Sorry if this is a second post. I posted yesterday but could not find it.

In checking my control panel, system I find a unknown device with a yellow ?
generic IEEE 1284.4 printing support.

It apparently needs a driver or something but I can not find out were to
obtain it from. Can anyone advise what I must do to fix this problem ? Auto
install can not locate anything and I checked the two 1284 locations on the
manual select .Everything I select says it's not for this device

Thanks in advance

Rick

IEEE 1284 is the spec for the parallel printer port. What
do you have connected to the big parallel port? XP does not
support the pass-through parallel use of a scanner and
printer on the same cable.

You may need to find drivers on-line for a printer or
whatever it is that you've installed.

I don't have anything connected to that port. What would happen if I deleted
the port and let Windows reinstall?

It is one of my favorite "repairs" when a computer
malfunctions, you can delete just about anything in device
manager and plug and play will reinstall it with (hopefully)
the correct and current drivers.

There is also a possibility that there is a setting in the
BIOS, if the device is disabled in the BIOS it might not be
installed by plug and play.

Unfortunately that didn't take care of the problem. Any other suggestions
appreciated.

Thanks
