I get this error message each time I try to use Windows
XP (Home) update: "Generic Host for Win32 Services has
encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry
for the inconvenience." I believe this started last
April when I installed SP1. I've been told to disable
XP's firewall and to disable antivirus software, both of
which I've done, to no avail. I'm considering
uninstalling XP and reinstalling it again, but I'd rather
not go to all the trouble. Any suggestions would be
greatly appreciated.

Go to run, type:cmd At the curser type:Sfc /Scannow
Install xp cd when the graph starts, exit the info page,
when the graph is thru,remove cd,type:CHKDSK C: /R
Then type:EXIT Restart computer Back on desktop, open
ADM.,services, scroll down to windows installer, start ser-
vice,close out,now try update.

I followed your instructions and was hopeful for awhile,
but the short Update I downloaded wouldn't install. I
got that same old "generic host for Win32 Services" error
message again. Thanks a lot for your help, but any other
suggestions?
