Instead of using the task pane, you might want to add a toolbar button to go
directly to the New dialog. Look for the FileNewDialog command in the All
Commands category of Tools | Customize (Commands tab) and drag it to a
toolbar (I use it to replace the New button that creates a new Blank
Document). It doesn't have a default icon, but you can copy/paste the one
from the FileNewDefault button (if you're replacing it) or edit that button
icon to be distinctive.

This is a problem that just cropped up out of nowhere. When I bring up
the Task Pane in Word 2002, and then click on the "General Templates"
button, sometimes the templates don't come up. If I exit Word completely
and then bring it back up, it works fine for a while. It only works
intermittently. Can someone please help me? I use these templates a lot.
