Just checking before i buy 2 200bg 7200rpm western digital Serial ATA
drives.....

General.

1- Will these drives be ok for the raid?
2- Should i use Raid 0 or Raid 1?
3- Is there any performance difference between raid 0 and raid 1 or is it
just the disc space benifit on Raid 0 that is the advantage.
4- If i got a warning from the bios that 1 drive is going to break on Raid 0
could i then send all files to 1 of the drives on the raid?

Installing XP on 2 raid drives.

1- What should i do 1st before installing the drives?
2- During XP setup it says press an F7 key i think to set up a raid
array.....do i use this?

I read what my PC4800-E Mobo's user manual said about installing raid and
seems straight forward so far. Using a 128 sized cluster?

I am a pc gamer but i will be making music on my pc and wont want to loose
anything i make due to Raid 0 please give me some advice :)

If possible email me at (e-mail address removed) any help will be nice

thanks

Installing an OS on RAID is typically the same (just different install
procedures) - what you need to do is research (Google search on "RAID") and
decide what is best for you and how RAID 0, RAID 1, etc works - these
questions will all be answered and you'll be able to make educated decisions
based on your needs, not what other's opinions are.

No reason they shoudn't...

RAID 1. I had my drives on RAID 0. Win XP SP2 upgrade trashed the RAID
controller, and I had to reload the entire system. RAID 0 has NO fault
tolerance!

RAID 0 gives better performance; RAID 1 gives fault tolerance/data safety.

For a combination of both, you need RAID 5 or 10.

If you're worried about performance, get the WD Raptor 10K RPM SATA drives...

Nope.

Read the manuals.

F6. Yes.

Use the controller's defaults.

Use RAID 1. RAID 0 is too risky for you.
