Hello Everyone,
I have the basic understanding of how to use a computer. I know how to use
scan disk, defrag, etc. But I'd really like to learn more about how drives
operate, how they'e petitioned, formatted, all the stuff most all of you
folks already know how to do. This website is a great tool, but I'd like to
know from any of you of a place to go to online or a book(s) to read about
computers, software, hardware, firmware, A to Z. Thanks.

First, note that this is *not* a web site. This is a newsgroup.

You happen to be participating in this newsgroup by using the awful
web-based interface to it it. That's the slowest, clunkiest, most
error-prone method there is. Do yourself a favor and switch to a newsreader,
such as Outlook Express, which comes with Windows. See

There are many good sources of information. I think the best book on
hardware is Scott Mueller's "Upgrading and Repairing PCs." It comes out in a
new edition about once a year. the current one is the 17th edition. It's not
cheap, but it's extraordinarily complete.

Don't be fooled by the title. Even if you just want general hardware
information, rather than info on how to upgrade or repair, it's an excellent
source.
