garbled sound

windows media player just today started really distorting
the sound of my music files. it sounds as if i'm playing
music at a very high volume with speakers that can't
handle it. however, this is not the case. in the start
menu i opened and ran "mplayer2" and that plays the music
fine. this problem just started today. any advice?

If your system was working fine yesterday or a couple of
days ago, do a Restore back to that time. You can go
back up to 90 days:
Start/AllPrograms/Accessories/SystemTools/System Restore.
