| Will all games and software work on Windows XP X64 edition

Firstly, in the future be sure to post this in the 'Windows XP Professional
x64 Edition' group - you'd likely find the best help there.

However, to answer your question - *most* 32-bit games/software will work.
32-bit software that integrates deeply into the kernel (for example the
'right-click' context menu) will not work properly. 3rd party firewalls,
Anti-Virus, etc... to name a few. Things like WinZip will work properly,
however, there will be no entry for WinZip in the right-click menu - however,
it does work. Any software that has 32-bit drivers will not work properly
either (Adobe Acrobat Professional, Palm Desktop, etc...). Lastly, 32-bit
drivers do not work. So, you must have 64-bit drivers for all hardware.
Otherthan that, most other 32-bit apps/games that don't fall into the above
situations run very well under Windows XP x64.

I have made the switch my self and have absolutly no problems. There were
some things that I had to find work arounds for. For instance, I can not use
Adobe Acrobat Professional, so I use Adobe Reader + CutePDF...I just need to
make .pdf files anyway - so, my needs are met. The only thing that I could
not get working was my webcam....however, Logitech is planning to release
drivers for it. So, I will have to wait for now.

Gaming is great under x64. The only game that does not work in my
collection is Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory. The game has these 'Star Force'
drivers for piracy protection. These drivers are installed on your system
when you install the game. However, as mentioned above, 32-bit drivers don't
run on x64. So, this game (or any other game with the Star Force drivers) is
no good. However, there are many titles that do work very well. In fact,
Several titles are being 'optimized' for Windows x64 through patching the
32-bit version. They are not true 64-bit games, they just are optimized for
AMD instruction sets. (Unreal Trournamen 2004, Far Cry are a few of these
titles). Also, Half-Life 2 has receiently been updated to 64-bit executable
code (to comfirm there is no *32 shown by the process). personally, I run
FEAR, Half Life, HL2, GTA 3, GTA: San Andreas, Roller Coaster Tycoon 2 and
have absolutely no problems.

Just for your reference, here is a link for games that unofficially work
under x64:

Just another note: www.planteamd64.com is a great place to visit if you are
thinking of making the switch. Good luck. Hope this helps.
