Hopefully, this is the correct group for my question. If not, please let me
know and I will repost.

I have had Windows XP on my new PC for several months. I have just recently
had the opportunity to "play" with the machine to see what is available. I
attempted to run one of the game programs (Freecell). I get a message that
the operation was cancelled due to restrictions.

Using the Help as a starting point, I did some research on my system and
found the following things:
--In addition to the usual account I have been using to log on, I discovered
another account called "Administrator". According to the listing of
accounts, both are members of the Administrator Group.

--After some trial, I was able to log on as this Administrator account. The
game that I wanted to try ran just fine, no errors. In fact, I tried several
and they all run fine.

--I checked the Permissons tab of the Properties of one of the games
(Freecell.exe). It shows that the Administrator Group has all permissions
checked.

I would like to be able to run the games from my usual log on rather than
having to log on as Administrator.

Can someone guide me as to how to solve this problem? I am not an XP
expert, so as much detail as possible would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Logon to the computer as the Administrator.
Go to the Control Panel. Switch the view to Classic View if it isn't
already that way (you can tell by looking in the upper left corner and
seeing if there is a link that says Classic View).
Open Administrative Tools
Open Computer Management
Look for Local Users and Groups and open it. Inside of it there are two
folders, Users and Groups. Open the Users folder.
Find your username. Double click on it then click on the Member of tab.
Click on Add and type Administrators in the box. Click OK.
Close all windows and reboot.

Thanks for the reply.

When I got the list of Users, the account/username I use was not even
listed(?). I followed the help instructions to Add my account to the list
and added it to the Administrators group. I rebooted and tried to run the
game with the same results I got earlier.

I do not believe I missed anything in your steps. I could not find the
Classic view link on the Control Panel, so I assume I was in the right place
there. Everything else in your instructions was perfect.

Any further suggestions?

Thanks.
