Accidentally huh :)

Control panel / add and remove programs / add remove windows
components

Click on details for accessories there located in the games.

You probably only deleted the shortcut folder (or maybe you dragged it into
another folder). Search for the programs in the system files and recreate
the shortcuts. The filenames are usually shortened versions of the game
name. Maybe some industrious person can research all of the filenames.

The games on my computer have vanished. suspect that someone dimped them.
The shortcut is still on the desktop, but there is no games folder. A search
does not show it up. Which of the disks that came with my Windows XP
computer might have this games folder?

Start | Control Panel | Add/Remove Programs | Add or Remove Windows
Components | Accessories and Utilities | Games. Have the XP
installation CD handy and insert it when asked for.

My problem is the opposite - how to get rid of those pesky games! With Win
98 it was easy, but with XP you can get them off the shortcut list but the
files are still there. If you go into the system32 folder and delete them
manually, they pop back up as soon as you open Explorer. I need to get them
out of temptation's way so that I can get on with my work. Help!
PS I'm using a Toshiba Tecra A2 which seems to open straight into Windows
without a DOS option or escape into BIOS.

Start, Control Panel, Add / Remove Programs, Add / Remove Windows
Components, Next, Accessories and Utilities, Details and uncheck box
before Games. Click on Details to see what you will be missing <g>!

Hope this helps.

Thanks Gerry, that's really helpful. I'd tried using 'Add/Remove Programs'
but wasn't clear about what to check and what to uncheck, because the
instructions don't distinguish between adding and removing (the usual
Microsoft obfuscation), so I ended up getting rid of IE and Media Player and
still having the stupid games. Now at last I'm free - thank you!
